I bought my truck used, a 2017 Ram 1500 SLT, papers in the glovebox show it was a rental. No issue. Almost a year later, I was backing up, when a service shifter light appeared on the dash. After I parked, I went into messages and it cleared. About 4 days later, it came on again, but started to ping every 20 seconds.Key on to ACC. Key off. Key on to run but don't start truck, wait for lights to go out. Slowly Press accelerator to the floor 2 times within in 10 seconds. Count to 5. Key off - Take Key out. Count to 10. Turned out under the shifter assembly and center console, there are dual ground eyelets. Mine were not tightend to spec. Tech put on a scanner, with in 1 hour had the issue solved and tightend the eyelets to the ground bolt.The message is displaying because the actual transmission state and the shifter state do not agree, or there is a communication issue with the shifter.
